Meeting Summary:

This is a summary from a meeting of the Brecksville Broadview Heights Education Center Board of Education on September 18, 2024.

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education held a meeting on September 18, 2024.  The meeting, live-streamed on YouTube, included various agenda items such as the Pledge of Allegiance and reports from board members and committees. Key discussions included the proposal to change the kindergarten entrance age cutoff from September 30 to August 1, starting in the 2025-2026 school year, to better align with student readiness and maturity. Another key discussion item was a comprehensive report on the school district's academic performance, including earning a 5-star rating from the state across all component areas. The Director of Teaching and Learning highlighted strong student growth and achievement, particularly in math, as well as some areas for improvement such as gifted identification and performance for students with disabilities. Next, the Superintendent presented an overview of the district's new strategic plan, including its mission, vision, values, strategic priorities, and action items across the areas of educating, empowering, and engaging students and the community. The plan was developed through extensive stakeholder input and engagement.  Finally, an update on the district's campus master planning process was presented, which included plans to demolish the Hilton building and create a new road entrance to the campus to improve traffic flow. The master plan also includes ideas for athletic facility improvements, though the funding sources are still to be determined. The meeting concluded with approvals of various trip proposals, agreements, and personnel recommendations.

In addition to written minutes, an audio or video recording is retained in BoardDocs.
